Dangerous Situation in China
The number of deaths from the coronavirus outbreak in mainland China rose by 136, pushing the nationwide death toll to 2,004 as of the end of Tuesday 11 Feb 2020, the country&National Health Commission reported on Wednesday.
At least 132 of the fatalities were from Hubei Province, the epicentre of the epidemic.
Nationwide, there had been a further 1,749 new confirmed cases of which 1,693 were from Hubei, bringing the total number of infections across the country to 74,185.
88 people test positive for coronavirus on ship off Japan
An additional 88 people have tested positive for coronavirus on a quarantined cruise ship off
the Japan coast, the health ministry said.
The new cases came from a total of 681 fresh results, the ministry said, taking the total
number of positive cases on the Diamond Princess to 542.
South Korea on frontline as conrona virus spread
The deadly coronavirus epidemic spread further outside China on Monday as a surge of infections in South Korea made it the biggest hotspot abroad, while authorities in Europe and the Middle East battled to curb outbreaks.
A rising number of new cases and deaths in other parts of the world have deepened fears about a potential pandemic, with South Korea, Italy and Iran emerging over the past week on the frontlines.
South Korea has seen a rapid surge in infections since a cluster emerged from a religious sect in the southern city of Daegu last week.
